Umrah during school holidays: the ideal family window

School holidays are the only window when a whole family can travel together without pulling children out of school. That's why they're in high demand — and why you must book early. Here's how to choose the right package, duration and room for a family departure.
Why school holidays fill up fast
It's arithmetic: in Morocco, thousands of families target the same few weeks — the ones where children don't miss school. As a result, on those dates the hotels near the Haram and the family rooms (triples, quads, quints) go first.
The practical consequence: for a school-holiday period, booking early doesn't save money so much as it saves choice. The later you decide, the more your selection shrinks to whatever is left.
Choosing the duration
Short programs (around 8 days / 7 nights) are tailored to school holidays: they fit inside the break without spilling into the new term, and cost less than a long program. 15-day packages suit departures outside the holidays better, when time isn't constrained.
For a family, a good split often looks like 4 nights in Makkah and 3 in Madinah: enough time to complete the rites without exhausting the children, and to experience the ziyara (see what to visit in Madinah).
The room: the real budget lever
Umrah pricing is per person and per room type. A family of four in a single quad room pays significantly less per head than two double rooms. It's the most effective lever, and it's too often ignored — detailed in Umrah tiers and family Umrah.
Three things to check when travelling with children
- Distance to the Haram, in metres — with children, 200 metres and 900 metres do not produce the same week. Our hotel comparison shows it for each property.
- Breakfast included — it hugely simplifies family mornings.
- A passport per child, valid at least 6 months: there is no registration on a parent's passport.
