Travel insurance for Umrah: what is covered and what is not
Wiki Tours International · Published on · Updated on
Travel health insurance is included in our Umrah programs: it covers unforeseen medical costs during the stay. What it does not replace is ongoing chronic treatment, cancellation for personal convenience, or loss of valuables. Here is how to read your cover before you travel.
What the included insurance covers
Our Umrah programs include travel health insurance. Its purpose is specific: covering unforeseen medical costs arising during the stay — a consultation, medication prescribed on site, an emergency hospital admission.
It is real protection and it matters: care in Saudi Arabia is billed at local rates, and an emergency without cover can be a significant sum.
What it does not cover
This is where most misunderstandings start. Standard travel insurance does not cover:
- ongoing treatment of a known chronic condition — your regular medication remains your responsibility and must be carried in sufficient quantity;
- cancellation for personal convenience — changing your mind is not a claim;
- loss or theft of valuables beyond often-low ceilings;
- activities and travel outside the program that you add yourself.
Do you need extra cover?
In two cases, yes — and it's worth deciding before you pay the balance:
- You travel with a chronic condition (diabetes, cardiac, hypertension). See your doctor beforehand and ask for a detailed prescription — see our article on vaccines and health.
- You carry valuable equipment. Separate baggage/device cover usually fits better than a generic ceiling.
Habits that prevent bad surprises
- Carry medication in your hand luggage, with the prescription.
- Keep a digital copy of your passport, insurance certificate and contract.
- Flag any health need at registration, not the night before: our team adapts the guidance and the pace of visits.
- If a problem arises on site, contact your guide first: they direct you to the right people.
Our team tells you exactly what your program's insurance covers before you sign. Message us via Bab Makka or WhatsApp.
