The cost of Hajj from Morocco: what the amount really covers
Wiki Tours International · Published on · Updated on
The Hajj amount is not merely a travel price: it covers transport, accommodation in Makkah and Madinah, the holy-sites services (Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah), guidance and a share of official fees. It is set each season and differs by route. Here is what makes up the bill.
An amount, not a commercial "price"
Unlike Umrah — where each agency freely sets its rates per tier and room — Moroccan Hajj follows an official amount set for the season, differing depending on whether you travel via the Ministry's program or a licensed agency (comparison here).
That amount is announced each year and changes from season to season (exchange rates, Saudi service costs, accommodation category). No figure you found online last year is valid this year: rely on the official announcement.
What the amount generally covers
- Air transport round-trip, on a group flight.
- Accommodation in Makkah and Madinah for the whole stay.
- Holy-sites services: the item people forget — tents at Mina, services at 'Arafat and Muzdalifah, catering and internal transport during the Hajj days. These are billed by Saudi providers and weigh heavily on the total.
- Guidance: group leaders, religious guides, medical assistance for the group.
- Official fees tied to the file and authorisations.
Our glossary defines each of these places — Mina, 'Arafat, Muzdalifah — and the hady, the sacrifice, sometimes paid separately.
What usually remains at your expense
- Your personal spending on site;
- the sacrifice (hady) if not included in the package;
- extra baggage, gifts and purchases;
- travel to the gathering point in Morocco.
Why Hajj costs more than Umrah
Three structural reasons: the length of the stay, the holy-sites services (absent from Umrah), and the timing — everyone comes at once, on fixed dates, straining accommodation and transport. Umrah spreads across the year and adjusts by tier and room (see Umrah tiers).
Our advice
Never compare a Hajj amount to an Umrah price: they are not the same services. And beware any "guaranteed Hajj" offer at a knock-down price — the quota and the lottery cannot be bypassed (see the lottery).
Wiki Tours International organises guided Umrahs year-round from Casablanca, with real prices shown per tier and room. For Hajj, rely on official channels — and message us if you want to understand your options.
