Not selected in the Hajj draw: what now?

Not being selected is disheartening, especially after several seasons. Two things are true at once: your registration can be renewed per the announced terms, and Umrah — the pilgrimage available year-round, with no quota or draw — remains possible right now. Here is how to approach both.
First, this is not a failure
Every season the vast majority of registrants are not selected — not for lack of merit, but because the national quota is far smaller than the number of applicants (why the lottery exists). Deeply devout people wait several seasons. The draw is a supervised chance, not a judgement.
What you can do about Hajj
- Check the result at the official source, never on a list circulating on social media — fake lists appear every season.
- Keep your receipt and all registration documents.
- Renew / maintain your registration per the terms announced for the next season; in some seasons, registration seniority is taken into account. Exact rules are in the Ministry's official announcement (the full process).
- Beware of miracle "solutions." Nobody can sell a Hajj place outside the official system. Any such promise is the clearest red flag there is.
What many Moroccans do meanwhile: Umrah
Umrah is not a "consolation prize": it is a full pilgrimage of great reward, which the Prophet ﷺ performed and encouraged. And practically:
- It can be performed year-round — no imposed dates;
- it depends on no quota or draw: you decide, you go;
- it is booked directly with a licensed agency, within weeks;
- it adapts to your budget through tier and room choice (understanding tiers);
- and it is valuable preparation: when your Hajj turn comes, you will already know ihram, tawaf, sa'i and the rhythm of the two holy cities.
