Umrah in October: weather, crowds and budget
Wiki Tours International · Published on · Updated on
October is one of the best windows of the year for Umrah: the Saudi summer heat eases, crowds stay moderate compared to Ramadan, and prices are gentler than peak season. It's also Moroccan school-holiday time — hence the high demand for these departures.
The weather: October's real relief
The Saudi summer is punishing, especially for elders and children. From October, temperatures drop noticeably in both Makkah and Madinah: walking to the Haram, the tawaf and the sa'i become far more comfortable, and the days are bearable without exhaustion.
It's one reason many Moroccan families choose autumn for a first Umrah — the experience is gentler (see 7 mistakes to avoid).
Crowds: moderate, but not empty
October is neither the Ramadan peak nor an absolute lull. The holy sites remain busy — they are year-round — but without the extreme density of Ramadan's last ten nights (see that period). In practice: you pray at the Haram without contending with record crowds.
Budget: a favourable window
The year's most expensive periods are Ramadan and the long summer break. October, outside the school-holiday week, sits in a more affordable zone. It's when the ratio between price and hotel proximity to the Haram is often at its best: for the same budget, you generally stay closer than in peak season.

What to plan ahead
- The school-holiday week is the exception: in high demand, it books early (our dedicated article).
- Visa and paperwork: allow for processing time, don't leave it to the last minute (documents & visa).
- The mandatory meningitis vaccine must be done early enough (vaccines & health).
