Documents — the pouch that never leaves your carry-on
- Passport (valid 6 months after return) + a photocopy stored separately
- Tickets and booking confirmations from the agency
- Prescriptions for your regular medication
- Some Saudi riyals or an international bank card
Clothing
- Men: the ihram garments (two unstitched white pieces) + a seamless money belt; light clothes for the rest of the stay
- Women: loose, covering, heat-appropriate clothing; no specific ihram outfit is required

Health and comfort
- Small pharmacy: painkiller, plasters, oral rehydration salts, your own treatments
- Sun protection, a light umbrella, sunglasses
- A reusable bottle — Zamzam water is available in the mosque
- Fragrance-free toiletries for the ihram period
Practical
- Plug adapter (Saudi Arabia uses British type G), power bank

- A thin prayer mat and masbaha if you wish — the mosques are fully carpeted
